What does “One Trip” mean?
One Trip is the closest common option to a new shipping container available in the United States. Containers are typically manufactured overseas, loaded once with cargo, and shipped here for sale after that single voyage.
Because of U.S. trade and intermodal flows, many containers stay in the country rather than returning empty on another ocean trip. Suppliers and shipping lines sell these units into the domestic market instead of sending them back.
They are not factory-new, custom-built containers. They are near-new equipment with one cargo voyage behind them — usually a more practical and lower-cost path than building a brand-new box in the U.S.
What should I expect?
- Minor dents from stacking and handling are normal
- Small scuffs or occasional oil spots may be present
- Most are beige or gray, though colors can vary
- Interiors may initially smell like fresh paint
- Airing the container out may help after delivery
- Doors generally operate more smoothly than older used containers
Best for
- Buyers who care about appearance
- Household furniture and cleaner storage uses
- Customers who want newer construction
- Customers who prioritize easier-operating doors
- Export use when paired with a CSC Survey
Buyer considerations
- One Trip containers usually cost more than used conditions
- Minor dents and scuffs are still normal
- They are typically much newer than WWT and Cargo Worthy containers
- Fresh paint odor may be noticeable initially
- If appearance is not important, a used container may offer better value
- If appearance, newer construction, and easier-operating doors are priorities, One Trip is usually the best choice
